You already know how to use a computer. You play video games,
text using your smart phone (which is a computer), type up documents, surf the web,
and connect with friends on Facebook or other social media. That's great, but don't
expect to find a good paying job based on those skills.
To explore what kind of skills are used in computer jobs currently in demand,
sign up for Ridgewater College's
Exploring Computer Careers class. This course is a good entry point
for all types of computer career tracks..
This class begins with the Scratch Software.
You will download it and install it. You'll be able to do that at home too, and it's free.
Perhaps you've already used it. Consider yourselve fortunate. This software was desgined at MIT, the
number one technology university in the world, specifically for introducing young people to programming
and computer technologies.
Rather than lecture at you about what computer careers are like, we'll get you busy creating
programs in Scratch, and while you're doing that, you will learn how learn different tasks within Scratch relate
relate to professional computer jos.
